The Suit of Swords is the air suit of the tarot, and it cuts into the realm of the mind: thought, truth, conflict, communication and hard decisions. Swords cards are famously the deck’s sharpest — they name the anxieties, arguments and painful clarities that other suits soften — which makes them some of the most honest cards to receive.

The Ace offers a breakthrough of clarity; the numbered cards walk through stalemate, heartbreak, rest, dishonesty and anxiety toward the Ten’s painful but final ending. The court cards think their way through the world: the curious Page, the headlong Knight, the perceptive Queen and the impartial King. Reversed Swords often point to confusion, self-deception, or a truth that is being avoided.
